As I was listening to the Oscars in the background some familiar themes started in my head - my disappointment at excessive consumption in America - all the money that goes into the Oscar spectacle could build hundreds of houses for the homeless, feed thousands of people.
Why does some guy who made movies get a standing ovation instead of a peacemaker? Why don't we have awards for people who really deserve them, etc.
Then along came Paul Haggis one of the producers of "Crash." His acceptance speech was brilliant. He said (very loosely paraphrasing..) that he dedicates his award to all the people who deserve an award who never get them, like everyday people who shine and work hard when there are no cameras around, etc
Thank you!! That's what I'm saying!!
